about

Traditional Gambian

A kora-piano-calabash trio rendition of a traditional praise song for a fallen warrior. The text in this song includes references to Serifu Sidi's family by naming his wife and mother. The text goes on to explain the whereabouts and circumstances of his death: "Between the fig tree and the rice, his own gun killed him, the bewitched gun killed him. Serifu Sidi has lain down, let's all weep for Serifu Sidi."
