Tantine

from Cascades by The Kora Band

about

by Ntesa Dalienst

A Congolese song by Ntesa Dalienst, one of the main singers and composers in the TPOK Jazz, a very popular band from the 60's-90's in Kinshasa led by the great guitarist and bandleader Franco. This song features a typical 80's Congolese scheme with a slow "romantic" section followed by a long fast vocal section and a raucous dance section (called a seben) at the end. The original lyrics in Lingala ask the singer's lover in Europe to forget the long distance between them. "In the winter, dance in the beat of this song, in the spring holy season, keep these flowers by your bed as i will be with you Tantine, my love."
